All the psychologists know for decades, that people express their personalities through nonverbal cues. There is a book about this phenomenon, written in 1933 by Gordon Allport and Philip Vernon, named Studies in Expressive Movement. The researchers found that they could reliably use body language, in order to determine whether people were extroverts or introverts. They could also deduce if test subjects have A or B type of personalities, from the spread of their movements.
As our body has the power to express people’s personalities, it is not a surprise that hand movements can reveal something about our inner personality traits. In order to know and learn what type of personality you are, you should quickly make a fist, without thinking about it and without looking in your hands. In that way you can check what kind of fist your body makes naturally. There are a three common ways of making a fist and they are associated with three different sets of characteristics.
1. Thumb on top
You have a sensitive, insecure external personality, if you make a fist with your fingers clenched and the thumb rests relaxed on the top of your hand. You also have a strong imagination, a lot of curiosity, as well as an ironic sense of humor.
Internally, you crave protection, and you want to be respected. And when it comes to romantic relationships, you may have a hard time in expressing your emotions, and that may make your partner feeling unloved. Despite the fact that you desire honesty, you may also be dishonest when it comes to your romantic life.
2. Thumb tucked
Your external personality is creative, charming, and intelligent, when you clench your fist with your thumb curled and tucked like a boxer. You are also a hard worker and high self – esteem and a surfeit confidence. On the inside, you are more fragile than your robust exterior suggests. You also have some high expectation from yourself and you also appreciate the encouragement that others give you. When you are in love, you tend to overthink, and that cause you closing yourself off from your partner, as you fear that you are smothering them. What is also hard for you, is letting go of memories from some past relationships.
3. Thumb inside
You have a witty, quick – thinking and emotional external personality, when you curl your fingers around your thumb when you are making fist. You also desire social harmony but you may also have some intentions of being manipulative. And when it comes to he internally side, all you want is to have the flexibility to be able to make your dreams come true. You prefer hanging out with your partner at your home, instead of going out in the town. You have a soft heart that makes you forgive people very easy, even though if you shouldn’t do that.
So, which of these personalities you have? By knowing what your clenched fist says about you, it will help you in understanding your own thoughts and emotions better, and it will help you in improving your life with the insights gained from this very simple test.
