Graviola or soursop is used to treat different infections that are caused by parasites and bacteria, herpes, coughs and even cancer. It can be also used to cause vomiting and help empty the bowels.
When it comes to cancer prevention the graviola leaves have very strong anti-cancer effect that is coming from phytochemicals in the plant. Based on a research by the “Cancer Letters” journal, the graviola leaves have great impact on pancreatic cancer. They stop cancerous pancreatic tumor cells from duplicating and cause them to die. Researchers suggest that this medicine can prevent and treat cancer.
Graviola leaves are also used to treat viral infections. A research published in “The Journal of Ethnopharmacology” from 1998 discovered that extracts from graviola leaves can suppress the herpes simplex virus that is spread through body fluids and is usually transmitted while kissing or through sexual contact.
Furthermore, graviola leaves can be used to reduce swelling and pain. Based on a study published in the “International Journal of Molecular Sciences” in 2010, the researchers treated mice with burned paws with extracts of graviola leaves and observed their behavior. According to their research and observation those who were given the supplement had less swelling and showed fewer indications of pain. Anyway, this research is insufficient to determine the safety and efficacy of this use in humans.
The amount of graviola that should be used depends on the user’s age, health and some other conditions. It should be noted that you need to follow relevant directions on product labels and consult your pharmacist or other professional before using any dosage of graviola leaves, graviola tea or any other graviola supplement.
