Basa fish or Pangasius Fillets is a fish which is sold in the form of frozen fillets all around Europe at a very cheap price, which is the reason why it’s so popular.
However, this fish from Vietnam is with a very low quality and it can also endanger your health.
The Basa fish is cultivated near the Mekong River in Vietnam, which is one of the most polluted rivers in the whole world. The fish is cultivated in sewage pools, which contain high levels of toxins and bacteria which end up in the meat of the fish. Besides this, it has also been found that the meat contains some heavy metals, chlorate, isomers, hexachlorobenzene and other harmful compounds. The USA has already banned the import of this kind of fish, because of the high levels of contaminants in the meat and because of the suspicion that it contains antibiotics as well.
So, from all this we can conclude that the Basa fish is very unhealthy, and fed with waste minerals which can be harmful for your health. In the nature, the fish grows 4 times faster, but that which is sold in our markets, is injected with antibiotics and hormones which are supposed to make the fish bigger. It has also been found that the meat contains hormones which accelerate the growth and reproduction of the fish, and it is also sold in partnership with big companies that have no regard for human health. The price of the fish is very low which makes it attractive for the supermarkets as well as for the costumers that buy it, but they are not aware of the low quality of the meat.
The Basa fish is also very nutritionally deficient and it does not contain omega 3 oils, or some other essential nutrients which can be found in natural and normal fish. It may be decent in taste but it is very dangerous for our health, which is why we should avoid it.
