Rockland County may be one of the oldest couple in the world, who will celebrate their birthday in a very special way, with the presence of few well – wishers, close family and their daughter that lives with them, called Marie Eveillard.
They have been part of the rich history of the County for a whole generation and also both of them have a combined age of a whopping 202 years, which means a whole lot to themselves and families.
The husband, Duranord Veillard, became 109 years in February while his dear wife, Jeanne, became 105 in May. They have been married for almost a generation.
They are married since November 1932, the same year when Franklin D. Roosevelt became a president and said their marriage vows. They never knew that they would live so long and that would have large 83 years marriage.
Duranord, who was born on 28 February, 1907, is a fishermen in St. Louis du Sud. He grew up in Les Cayes in Southern Haiti but lived in Port – au – Prince and studied law. This long living couple had five children, later moved to United States in 1968 because of the job losing of Duranord, who worked as a judge. He settled in Spring Valley.
For the next 10 years, he worked as lab technician at the Good Samaritan hospital, but also got retired for the second time.
For the celebration, he was dressed in matching crisping white guayabera with brown slacks and brown leather shoes. He enjoyed the happy moments with his family while he was telling jokes and holding the American flag. He was also singing songs that he learnt in Cuba during 1920s.\
