When this boy was born, the doctors were crying when they saw him, and also told his mom to prepare for the worst – his death. But, then something really amazing happened.
When Priscilla Morse was browsing something on Facebook in 2015, she and her husband David already had four children and were living in the United States. While on Facebook, she came across a photo of a 7-year-old Bulgarian orphan with several severe medical conditions. Even though the idea was crazy and it seemed an irrational decision, Priscilla decided that her family is going to welcome the boy into their home and it will save his life.
The name of the ill boy was Ryan and he was living in Bulgaria, which meant that the family had to endure a foreign adoption process, before bringing him home to help him. After they were cleared to adopt the boy, Priscilla went alone in Bulgaria and brought the boy back to her home. After that, the family had immediately tested him thoroughly to determine what his ailments were, and the results were less than promising.
The doctors could not believe that the boy, who was tiny, was 7 years old as his size indicated that he was more likely a toddler. In one recent post, this year, Priscilla recalled how,
“Grown men, doctors who have probably seen horrible things over the years, held Ryan’s little hand and cried. No one could understand how this was allowed to happen, and when I said there were orphanages full of kids just like him, they just stared at me in shock. Everyone told me to prepare for him to die.”
The boy was diagnosed with dwarfism, scoliosis, cerebral palsy, and clubfoot, all of which adversely affect Ryan’s size. He was also severely malnourished, and had dark grown hair all over his tiny body, so it would keep it warm.
Despite the warnings from the doctors that Ryan is not going to survive his childhood and there won’t be any improvement, the family that adopted him, refused to sit idly by while their new child suffered through the defects from his birth. The boy had already spent 7 years with agony, there were no parents who can take care of him, so that was simply not an option as he was adopted by the Morse family.
After a while, something really amazing happened. There was a great improvement in Ryan’s condition and health. He was gaining straight with weight little by little, and a loving and mischievous personality emerged where a near lifeless child used to be.
It was not always easy, but the family claims that the sleepless nights spent in the hospitals, have all been worth for it. Ryan has siblings too, and they adore him and they have also been a crucial part in his recovery. Priscilla said:
“The skeletal near death child crying in pain…he doesn’t exist anymore. He’s gone forever and he’s been replaced with a chubby, giggly, happy boy who loves kisses and tickles. He rolls all over and can be a naughty little butterball!”
Now, Ryan’s battle is still not over, but he has come such a long way since his first visit of the doctor. There is also a plan of having a surgery to straighten his spine in the near future. And maybe he is still tiny, but he is full of life in a way that every person that knew him a year ago, would not believe. There is a Facebook page for his story, so you can follow it if you like, in order to see the updates on this amazing boy’s progress.
