3 SERIOUS REASONS WHY YOU NEED TO STOP USING YOUR SMARTPHONE AT NIGHT

Nowadays, every one of us is so addicted to modern technology, that we even use our mobile devices when we go to bed.

A lot of people use their phones for playing games, surfing the internet, chatting or checking the weather forecast, right before they go to sleep. According to the claims of some experts, this is one very unhealthy habit, which can even lead to serious health problems.

The reason for the damaging effects of the phones on our health is the radiation which they actually emit, particularly the blue light on the mobile phone screen. That light is actually a part from the light spectrum to which we are exposed to during the day, through the sunlight. However, being exposed to that light at bedtime can cause you various vision issues. This light can also affect the natural sleep cycles of our body, as it impedes the production of melatonin.

Some scientists have researched the effects of the phone radiation and they have listed the following health issues, which can be caused as a result of it:

1. Cancer

Besides affecting the natural sleeping patterns, the light from the mobile devices will also increase the risk of cancer, particularly breast and prostate cancer. Melatonin is actually an antioxidant present in our body, which naturally fights cancer, but the blue light suppresses it causing it to become less efficient.

2. Insomnia

The melatonin, which is a hormone, regulates the body’s sleeping cycle. As we already said, the blue light impedes the production of melatonin and that will lead to insomnia. Some other health problems which can also occur include: slower response time, depression, weight gain, aging skin, cardiovascular problems and so on.

3. Eye damage

The contrast exposure to blue light increases the risk of developing vision related conditions, like cataract, macular degeneration and retina damage. There was one case when a 35-year old patient had cataracts and cloudy vision that are very unusual for people at that age. This could be as a result of frequent exposure to blue light, when we use our mobile phones before we sleep.
